Make the Road is actively growing its accompaniment network, and we want to invite you to join us! Accompaniment promotes the rights and dignity of immigrants and challenges power dynamics in spaces where community members often feel disempowered, such as ICE check-ins and courthouses. Volunteers accompany immigrant community members to bear witness and support them in navigating immigration processes. 

The first step in joining our accompaniment network is to attend an accompaniment training. We are holding our first Accompaniment training of 2025 this Saturday, January 18th, from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. in Hartford. At this training, you will learn the basics of what it means to accompany someone, what to expect when accompanying someone, what the role entails, and how to build relationships with other volunteers. Here are the details for our accompaniment training:

Lunch and a light breakfast will be provided as part of the training, along with all the materials you need to understand the accompaniment process. We look forward to having you join us and expanding our network.
