At the Unitarian Universalist Church in Meriden (UUCM), we are deeply committed to supporting LGBTQ+ rights and fostering an inclusive community. Our efforts include:
Welcoming Congregation Status: UUCM is recognized by the Unitarian Universalist Association as a Welcoming Congregation, affirming and including individuals of all sexual orientations and gender identities.
Meriden Pride Community Center: In August 2024, we opened the Meriden Pride Community Center on our premises at 328 Paddock Avenue. This center offers resources, support, and a safe space for LGBTQ+ individuals and allies, hosting events like game nights and providing a lending library.
Transgender Inclusion Education: We have initiated a six-month congregational education program focused on transgender inclusion, aiming to deepen our understanding and support of transgender individuals within our community.
Observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance: UUCM holds services to honor the Transgender Day of Remembrance, standing in solidarity with the transgender community and commemorating those who have lost their lives due to anti-transgender violence.
Through these initiatives, UUCM strives to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all, actively working towards LGBTQ+ justice and equity.
Every individual possesses inherent worth and dignity. As Unitarian Universalists, we not only welcome people of all gender identities and sexual orientations but also embrace this diversity as a meaningful and spiritual strength. Our commitment is to fostering inclusive faith communities and actively advocating for justice and equity for LGBTQ individuals. You are sacred just as you are, and you are fully welcome here.
